build an email list

I recommend putting together a simple website if you are into the business of content creation.

It can help you build an email list, build your portfolio and also acquire clients.

A website doesn’t need to be expensive and if you are looking for a reliable option, I would recommend using Hostinger for your hosting needs.

Build an Email List!

“Own your traffic or, prepare to lose it!” – Neil Patel

A 100K Followers gone. Just Like That!

Imagine this.

You wake up, grab your phone, and open LinkedIn, expecting to see your usual engagement.

But instead, you’re logged out.

You try to sign in again. Nothing.

Your account is gone.

100K followers, years of content, countless connections, wiped out overnight.

No warning. No explanation. Just gone.

This isn’t a made-up horror story. It happens all the time.

Accounts get banned. Algorithms change. Reach dies.

If you’ve built your business on social media alone, this means one thing.

Your audience is not yours.

You’re building on borrowed land.

And the moment the platform decides, it can take it all away.

But I learned this lesson the hard way, not just through social media but through my own business.

The Day My Entire Business Went Down

Years ago, I was running websites that brought in thousands of visitors every day.

I was relying on traffic, ads, and organic reach to keep my business growing.

But then, out of nowhere, my hosting server was hacked.

Everything crashed.

My sites went down. My traffic disappeared overnight. And I had no way to reach the people who visited my content daily.

Why?

Because I didn’t build an email list.

If I had been collecting emails from those visitors, I could have instantly reached out and rebuilt on another platform.

Instead, I had to start from scratch.

It was a painful, expensive lesson.

And that’s when I truly understood, owning your audience isn’t optional.

It’s a necessity.

You Need to Own Your Audience – Build Your Email List

The best creators don’t rely on LinkedIn, Instagram, or Twitter to keep their audience.

They use these platforms as a top-of-the-funnel strategy to attract people—but they own the audience by moving them to their email list.

Why?

Because your email list is a direct line to your audience.

No middlemen. No restrictions. No algorithm changes.

Just you and the people who actually care about your content.

How I Built My Email List Using LinkedIn

I started treating LinkedIn as a lead generation tool, not just a place to post content.

Here’s the system I used (and you can, too):

Step 1: Create High-Value Content That Attracts Your Ideal Audience

Your content should be so good that people want more from you.

What works best?

  • Actionable posts (step-by-step guides, lessons from your experience).
  • Engaging stories that build connection.
  • Data-backed insights that show authority.

At the end of each post, include a Call to Action (CTA) that drives people to your email list.

Example:

“Want 100 viral hook templates for LinkedIn? Comment ‘Hooks’ below, and I’ll send it to you!”

This triggers engagement and tells the algorithm your content is valuable.

Step 2: Offer an Irresistible Lead Magnet

People won’t give you their email just because you ask.

They need a reason, something valuable in return.

I tested three lead magnets, and all of them worked well:

  1. A PDF guide with 100 viral hook templates – Helped people write better LinkedIn posts.
  2. A Notion Content Calendar Template – Made content planning easier.
  3. My Newsletter – For those who wanted deeper insights every week.

The key?

Make it simple, useful, and easy to consume.

Step 3: Collect Emails Using a Landing Page

Once people show interest, you need a way to collect their emails.

Here’s how I did it:

  1. I set up a simple landing page using ConvertKit (you can also use Beehiiv or MailerLite).
  2. The page had:
    • A clear headline (“Get 100 Viral Hooks for LinkedIn”).
    • A short description of the lead magnet.
    • A form to enter their email.
  3. When they signed up, they were redirected to a thank-you page with the download link.

This entire process takes less than 30 minutes to set up.

Step 4: Send the Lead Magnet & Build a Relationship

Once they’re on your list, don’t just send the lead magnet and disappear.

This is where most people fail—they collect emails but never follow up.

Here’s my simple 3-email welcome sequence:

Email 1: Instant Delivery

  • Subject: Here’s Your 100 Viral Hook Templates!
  • Content:
    • Deliver the lead magnet.
    • Quick introduction about who you are.
    • Ask them to reply with their biggest challenge.

Email 2: Value & Connection

  • Subject: How to Use These Hooks for More Engagement
  • Content:
    • A short tutorial on using the hooks.
    • A personal story of how I improved my LinkedIn posts.
    • A soft CTA to check out my newsletter.

Email 3: The Next Step

  • Subject: What’s Next?
  • Content:
    • Invite them to subscribe to my full newsletter.
    • Share another valuable tip.
    • Offer them a Notion Content Calendar for deeper help.

This sequence warms up new subscribers so they stay engaged and look forward to your emails.

Step 5: Keep Sending Valuable Emails

Growing an email list is not about collecting emails.

It’s about nurturing the people who trusted you with their inbox.

  • Send 1–2 emails per week.
  • Share useful insights, personal stories, and actionable advice.
  • Avoid spammy sales pitches—focus on helping first.

The result?

A loyal audience that actually reads, engages, and buys from you.

Your Social Media Audience Is Temporary – Your Email List Is Forever

Social platforms are great for discovery, but they shouldn’t be where you store your audience.

Because the next time an algorithm changes or your account gets flagged, you’ll be grateful you built an email list.

So, start today.

Own your audience. Build your list. Secure your business.
